FIVE Overrated Ride Types We Wouldn’t Miss.
FIVE overrated ride types we wouldn’t miss! Have they had their day? Are you sick of seeing them? In our latest blog we’re sharing five ride types we don’t mind giving a miss when we see them.
In truth, you can almost guarantee that there will ALWAYS be one particular ride type you come across when visiting a theme park that immediately makes you think “oh god, not another”!
But what type of ride gives you this reaction, which are you sick of seeing and ultimately which ride types do you feel are heavily overrated?
In our latest post we’re sharing our 5 top ride types that immediately turn us off when we see them at any theme park.
The Vekoma Family Boomerang Coaster.
Now, the Vekoma family boomerang roller coaster, this ride type seems to be EVERYWHERE right now! Energylandia in Poland even has TWO in the same park!
But what makes this type of ride so popular? And why do most theme parks seem to have one? Well, ultimately, as much as they can be quite dull and samey, the family boomerang roller coaster offers a perfect starting point for those wanting their ‘first taste’ of what a bigger roller coaster can offer.
The UK for instance has two we can think of straight off the back and those are Accelerator (former Ben 10 The Ride) at Drayton Manor Resort & Velociraptor at Paultons Park.
In truth though as dull as they can be, we’re still going to ride one if we come across them out on our travels. Afterall, you’ve got to have the cred right?

(ANY) Wooden Roller Coaster.
Okay, before you stop reading and hit that little ‘x’ in the top right hand (or left hand) corner of the screen hear us out.
This one really does in a sense come down to personal preference and while yes, there are some great wooden roller coasters out there, there are also some absolute duds too.
Whenever we come across a wooden coaster on our travels it’s no secret it’s not the first roller coaster we’re going to hit (RMC IBOX Hybrids don’t count either by the way, they’re wood and steel).
There are some however that are among some of the best coasters in Europe so far and these include Troy at Toverland and Wodan at Europa-Park (in our opinion anyway).
Ultimately though we’re not too fussed for wooden roller coasters and as a result usually merit that’oh go, not another one’ reaction when we see them.
We’d much rather take a huge steel thrill coaster over a wooden roller coaster any day, or is that just us?

Vekoma Madhouses (E.g. HEX at Alton Towers).
When it comes to this particular ride type one thing’s certain – once you’ve ridden one, you’ve ridden them all. Afterall, they all do the same thing, or do they?
This is usually the stance most people take, but in truth as much as yes Madhouse’s do the exact same thing regardless of theme or setting, it’s usually the ride’s storyline or overall theme that keeps us coming back for more.
HEX: the Legend of the Towers at Alton Towers and Hotel Embrujado at Parque Warner Madrid are probably two of our favourite out there so far with Haunted House Monster Party trailing not too far behind.
Ultimately though, when it comes to boarding one of these rides you know exactly what’s coming and as such when the illusion of ‘going upside down’ happens we always seem to find ourselves sporting the same reaction…. meh!

Gerstlauer Euro Fighters
There’s no sugar coating it here, this particular type of ride just doesn’t do anything for us at all. Now yes, we love SAW: The Ride, but, we love it for the theme and not the ride experience.
Some roller coasters with compact cars or layouts can be incredibly fun, but Gerstlauer Euro Fighters (in our experience at least) are DEFINITELY not that.
Indeed, this particular type of roller coaster is not known for aging well either, regardless of setting which is why we were extremely surprised when Paultons Park revealed they will be getting one next year last month.
That aside though, Euro Fighters do offer a thrilling ride experience nonetheless and some (like RAGE at Adventures Island in Southend on Sea) are actually considered to very re-rideable.
Our take on this could however be down to the fact we’ve ridden too many coasters over the years because in truth, the public’s general reaction over Paultons introduction of Draken next season seemed to be very positive.
Regardless, we’re definitely not heading to a Gerstlauer Euro Fighter first if we come across one.

Zamperla Disk’O Coasters
Now then, out of all the overrated ride types we’ve come across over the years Zamperla Disk’O Coasters seem to be the most boring and predictable of them all.
We find them that often in fact we’re not actually bothered if we don’t get on one when visiting a park for the first time (Parque de Attraciones Madrid was a prime example of that).
Zamperla Disk’O Coasters come in two different forms – the compact half pipe shaped one (like Avatar Airbender at Blackpool Pleasure Beach) and the ones including the ‘hump’ in the middle (e.g. Thor at Drayton Manor Resort).
There are however a lot out there who love a Zamperla Disk’O Coaster and will ride it numerous times during their visit so again, this one’s more a matter of personal opinion. That being said though we don’t rush to ride them.

So, those the FIVE ride types we feel are the most overrated out there, but which ride type gives you that ‘oh god’ feeling? Why not share yours with us in the comments below?
