Universal Studios Great Britain To Go Ahead?

In Universal Studios Great Britain about to go ahead as planned? It’s definitely looking likely if the latest update is anything to go by that’s for sure!

Last night (Monday 20th January 2025) news broke online that Universal Studios Great Britain’s government approval could potentially be imminent.

The development came in an article by news channel Bloomberg who reported the Universal Studios UK project was just one of a group of delayed projects about to be approved.

“Other projects poised to be signed off after being delayed are the Lower Thames Crossing, a road tunnel beneath London’s Thames River, and a Universal Studios theme park north of the capital, the people said.”

This is a HUGE step in the right direction for Universal Destinations & Experiences’ latest expansion project and indicates a huge shift in the UK theme park industry as we know it might be about to happen after all.

Universal Studios Great Britain could be about to be given the green light following a recent development online pointing towards the project’s imminent approval by the UK government.

Universal Destinations & Experiences first announced their intentions for a potential theme park and resort here in the UK just over one year ago in early 2024.

The announcement came following the discovery of Comcast’s purchase of a plot of land formerly used as a Brickworks covering an area of 476 acres in size.

“Universal Destinations & Experiences is a leader in operating the most innovative and immersive theme parks and resorts around the world. It is part of Comcast Corporation, a global media and technology company that also includes NBCUniversal and Sky in the UK. Last year, we confirmed the purchase of an approximately 476-acre parcel of land just south of Bedford with the goal of exploring a potential new theme park and resort experience at this site.”

Since doing so they have held an official public consultation open to everyone over a period of two days in April 2024 inviting local residents, businesses and those interested in the project to attend and voice their queries regarding the project in person.

Following this however things appeared to go very quiet and the discussion date for the project kept getting pushed back and back, but yesterday’s news finally gives hope a decision could be reached by Universal Studios in the very near future as to whether or not they choose to proceed (which we feel fairly confident they will).

Along with this, recent construction works on the area’s infrastructure including the build of a brand new railway station have also been well underway for some time now too.

The above shows Universal Destinations & Experiences proposed use of the former Brickworks which have stood unused for a prolonged period.

It’s also believed that Universal Destinations & Experiences and Comcast (the company behind the development) have also begun to purchase houses in the surrounding area too and with all of this in mind things are definitely looking positive for Universal Studios Great Britain to go ahead.

The above image shows how Universal plan to develop the 476 acre plot of land including the construction of a theme park, city walk area, accommodation and car parks to name but a few features.
