Visiting SCREAMS! At Thornton Hall Country Park!
This weekend we paid a visit to North Yorkshire’s BRAND NEW scream park – SCREAMS! At Thornton Hall Country Park near Skipton.
The newly re-imagined event (formerly known as Scream Fields) features 3 heavily immersive (and very different) scare houses, a fully licensed bar and communal space complete with live entertainment, a pumpkin patch scare zone and roaming actors aplenty.
Guests also have the chance to push their limits with one of the mazes providing a far more ‘hands on’ approach (literally) than the other two.
So, what can you expect from SCREAMS! At Thornton Hall Country Park? Let’s take a closer look!
JINXED
JINXED is the first of THREE scaremazes featured at SCREAMS! At Thornton Hall Country Park and provides a unique twist on the traditional killer clown themed scaremaze.
“Dare to step behind the curtains and venture into the grotesque backstage of Carnival Jinx?
Crafted by the deranged mind of Jinx, New Orleans’ most-terrifying jester, these previously unseen corridors of terror are home to the most disturbing band of misfit carnies and clowns that ever walked the earth.
Each step through this backstage maze unearths chilling oddities and monstrous outcasts. Do you have the courage to explore what lies beyond the joy and jubilation?
Welcome to Jinxed, where bad luck is the least of your problems…”
JINXED provides the perfect fresh take on the traditional killer clown aesthetic bringing a much darker and more deranged twist to the creepy carnival genre.
Actors in here were absolutely on point, well hidden and costumes complimented their placement too delivering a chilling experience from beginning to end.
The highlights of this particular attraction were the poster maze and the bearded lady host dominating the entrance to the attraction.
Malkin Manor
Malkin Manor is the second of the three and features a story centered around the traditional ‘haunted manor’ concept.
“Step into Malkin Manor with world-famous vloggers of the unknown “The Haunt Hackers”.
This isn’t just a visit; it’s your ticket to witness history in the making! For one night only, The Haunt Hackers will be proving definitely that there is life after death..
Be there as their cameras, armed with the latest in spirit detection, seek to uncover the truth behind the Manor’s cursed legacy.
Will the shadows reveal themselves or will the Manor’s twisted tales come to light?
Dare to explore Malkin Manor.”
This maze featured some absolutely fantastic theming and themed scents throughout bringing the tale being told to life in the most authentic way possible.
The addition of twisting, tight nit corridors and dead ends (also featured in JINXED) meant that what started out as a group exploration very quickly became a solo one.
The sets and actors in Malkin Manor were fantastic and performances felt very authentic to the story at hand too. A great strong scaremaze throughout.
Blackmarket - A Horror Experience!
Blackmarket isn’t just a scaremaze – it’s a heart pounding, pulse racing experience intense enough to brake even the most seasoned horror fans.
“Enter the shadowy underbelly of BLACKMARKET. A rave shrouded in secrets, where euphoria meets its end.
The derelict Harris & Sons Meat Processors isn’t just the hottest new rave venue – it’s a maze of terror, pulsing with the unseen horrors of human trade. Joy turns to fear, dancers to victims, caught in a sinister cycle of capture and despair.
Will you dance through the danger, or is this your rave to the grave?”
This literal ‘hands on’ horror maze tests the nerves of all who enter adopting a much more invasive, physical approach to delivering the scares.
Those who enter with be bound, hooded, restrained, verbally abused, man handled and more as they make their way through the attraction and for this reason is recommended for a minimum age of 16+.
That being said though we still loved every minute of it, so much so that we decided to take it on TWICE!!
Pumpkin Patch (Scare Zone).
What Halloween event wouldn’t be complete without it’s very own pumpkin patch? Well don’t threat, SCREAMS! At Thornton Hall Country Park have you covered!
Step into the dimly lit pumpkin patch (included with admission) and test your nerves as you carefully tread the shadows on the look out for it’s sinister residents.
You never know who you might MEAT along the way right?
Pumpkins are also available for purchase at an additional cost meaning you can even take home one of the many on display throughout.
The same pumpkin patch is also available to younger guests throughout the day too (minus the live actors) as part of their family friendly Halloween offering.
Catering and Entertainment.
As mentioned, SCREAMS! at Thornton Hall Country Park also features a full communal area near the entrance to the attraction complete with a food serving hot food and a fully licensed bar serving drinks both alcoholic and none alcoholic.
Along with this guests have the chance to take a load off and enjoy some musical entertainment between the scares too with live acts featuring on the stage (located within the tent) throughout the night.
As well as this, be on the lookout for roaming actors and actresses too with such characters Mich the Ring Master, Stitches the Clown and an array of creepy scare crows all roaming the street.
Food felt reasonably priced for what you got, the live entertainment was really good with some great covers by a very talented musical artist and the street theatre was fantastic too – Mich the Ringmaster was a definite highlight!
Should You Visit?
So, should you visit SCREAMS! At Thornton Hall Country Park? Absolutely!
For the price of admission – £20.00 per person, this fantastic new scream park provides a great night out for even the most timid out there.
The mazes are highly detailed, very eerie and packed full of jumpscares and the pumpkin patch is worth a wander into as well.
The food on offer felt very reasonable and was served quickly and the atmosphere in the communal area felt vibrant and fun throghout the evening too.
The only two criticisms we would have is that despite the amount of work that had gone into creating the mazes you could still see the ceiling of the tents they were located in (although this was explained to us and makes perfect sense) and queue management needs improving too with those buying fast track almost seeming forgotten at times.
That being said, the whole experience was fantastic and we had an amazing time overall.
