SIK at Flamingo Land Resort - What Did We Think?!
SIK – Considered by many to be one of the UK’s most HIGHLY ANTICIPATED new roller coasters in recent times finally opened to the public on July 2nd 2022!
After nearly three years of set backs, Flamingo Land Resort‘s exciting new ride finally welcomed public riders for the very first time earlier this Summer and since opening has proved a MASSIVE hit with both die hard theme park fans and the general public alike.
We were therefore honoured when the park invited us to experience their adrenaline fueled new roller coaster before the public on it’s opening day, and save it to say we were FAR from disappointed.
Did It Live Up To The Hype?
In short, YES!! Sik was everything we had expected it to be and then some.
From start to finish Flamingo Land Resort’s thrilling new addition delivers on every expectation you may have prior to riding it and then goes far beyond them!
From the constant hangtime through each and every inversion to the sheer pace SIK keeps throughout, this incredible new ride certainly isn’t for the faint of heart.
The mist tunnels situated both around the cobra roll and at the end of the ride are also a nice touch too.
For us however, it’s the sheer amount of attention to detail throughout the ride that makes SIK stand out above every other ride currently at the park.
You can really tell just how much time and effort has gone into ensuring this thrilling new ride delivers a world class experience.
What Do We Mean?!
When it comes to SIK, it’s not just the ride’s ten “spine tingling inversions” that make it worth checking out alone, it’s smaller details too.
The ride features a very modern, minimalist landscape, however on the final turnaround there lies a large man made pond.
Within the pond there are a series of smaller fountains following the final turn and a central, much larger fountain too.
The central fountain looks spectacular on it’s own with it’s many jets spurting water high into the air, however at night it’s true majesty comes to life.
The fountain features a series of LED lights built into the base of both the fountain and it’s many jets.
The lights allow the jets (and fountain as a whole) to change colour intermittently adding further depth to the feature overall, and it’s not just the fountain that makes it too.
Within the station building you’ll find an array of brightly coloured flags hanging from the ceiling, each sporting the ride’s logo in a different range of colours.
The building also features night club-esque lights and pumps a club style playlist too.
This creates some real night club vibes and sets the tone for the ride’s high energy experience as a whole.
So Why "SIK"?
As revealed by Flamingo Land Resort prior to the opening, their new ride has been brought to life in partnership with close friends and local global fashion brand Sik Silk.
It’s therefore only fitting that the ride should reflect that partnership and what better way to go than with the use of a common slang term for “awesome” (aka. Sick adapted to fit the first part of the brand’s name SIK).
In short, the ride lives up to this term – it is indeed “SIK”, and the link to the brand can be seen from the moment you walk in through the ride’s gift shop entrance to the moment you exit the ride (especially in the station itself).
Sik Silk have also brought the interior of the station building to life by telling their story and showcasing their unique look throughout.
Overall, as unique and unexpected as the ride’s name and theme was, it certainly works as it creates a truly ‘one of a kind’ experience from beginning to end and grabs the attention of all who ride it.
SIK by Name, SIK by Nature?
Absolutely! SIK is (in our opinion) by FAR one of the best new roller coasters to open in the UK since ICON at Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 2018.
Flamingo Land really have added something special to their ride line up with this incredible new addition.
In short, we fully expect this will just be the shape of things to come for the North Yorkshire based theme park and zoo in the years ahead.
We would however like to offer massive thanks to the park for inviting us down and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them in the years ahead as Flamingo Land firmly cement themselves once again as one of Yorkshire’s MUST VISIT attractions.
