Merlin Entertainments To Sell SEA LIFE?

Are Merlin Entertainments about to sell their SEA LIFE Centres? Recent BREAKING NEWS on Sky News seems to suggest this is the case.

In a recent news article Sky News confirm after having approached Merlin Entertainments directly a spokes person for the company confirmed this may potentially happen.

In the article Merlin Entertainments confirm they have appointed Rothschild – a major investment banker to oversee the review of their current assets.

With this comes the potential for the company to strip back on their current portfolio, and UK SEA LIFE centres seem to be the first to face the chop.

Speaking to Sky News, Merlin Entertainments’ appointed spokesperson states;

“Like any well-run business, Merlin regularly reviews its estate, to ensure it reflects the company’s long-term growth strategy.

“We continue to invest in our attractions globally – opening 24 new rides, attractions and experiences in 2024.

Speaking further about upcoming future international investments, Merlin’s spokesperson states;

“Next month, the first standalone Peppa Pig Theme Park will open in Dallas Fort Worth followed by the first LEGOLAND Resort in China, opening in Shanghai this summer.

“This follows our recent announcement of a new global strategic partnership to bring Minecraft to life in Merlin locations – initially on both sides of the Atlantic.”

UK sites safe from the chop are said to include London, Birmingham and Manchester, but sites such as Scarborough, Blackpool, Weymouth and Loch Lomond could all end up being sold as part of the sale.

Merlin Entertainments owned UK theme parks are however said to be safe at present and DO NOT face any immediate threat from the company’s ongoing asset stripping.

It’s also confirmed that Merlin Entertainments currently own and operate over 40 different aquariums worldwide and with this said, could other international SEA LIFE Centres also face the same threat? Only time will tell.
