Showtown – A Look Behind The Curtain

Showtown recently opened in Blackpool. A museum, home to all things Showbiz which gives you the chance to step behind the curtain and learn more about the stars and shows which Blackpool is famous for. The attraction is located a stone’s throw from the Blackpool Tower so is easy to fit into your visit to the area however the building is quite unassuming with a black exterior apart from the Showtown branded signs. I went to look and see what was hiding inside the unassuming building.

This way to Fun? Lets go!

Entering the attraction, we realised quickly that the exterior was hiding quite a surprise. From the themed staircase leading up, to the main reveal as we opened the doors to the museum, it was something else. From the outside world, we were transported into the world of Showtown.

What a staircase!

We were able to explore the many exhibition rooms including a pop-up exhibition around the works of a photographer who has spent many years working with performers both local and visiting Blackpool. The attraction prides itself on being interactive with lots of things to interact with including an opportunity to become part of the exhibition with their interactive wall space. The attractions many galleries are all incredibly well themed to suite their topic with each one transporting you to a different world within Showtown.
But it isn’t just the exhibits which immerse you. On our journey we met roaming actor guides who were packed full of fun and information to truly bring you into the world.  We absoloutely loved the addition of these wonderful team members who really added to our experience and helped us explore the attraction’s many offerings.

The magic is revealed!

We spent over an hour and a half exploring the attraction interacting with the exhibits and learning about the shows that made Blackpool famous before making a purchase or two in the giftshop downstairs which has something for everyone.

Everyone loves the Sooty Show!

Showtown is a great addition to Blackpool and an experience we look forward to experiencing again with our Annual Pass (available via Gift Aid). It’s a unique museum and somewhere where all the family will enjoy. If you are considering it, make time for Showtown during your visit to the area.
