Oakwood Theme Park To CLOSE Permanently?

Oakwood Theme Park in Wales looks set to close it’s doors permanently following an official statement from the park themselves on their official website this evening (Tuesday 04th March 2025).

In an official statement Aspro Parks – Operator of the much loved family theme park announced that they have taken the difficult decision to close the theme park to the public for the entirety of the 2025 season.

Contributing factors to this decision are said to be a lack of sustainability caused by factors such as the current economic challenges faced, the recent rise of the NLW (national living wage), costs of food and beverage and a steady decline in visitor numbers over the past few years.

Oakwood Theme Park plays hosts to such rides as Megafobia, Speed: No Limits and up until recently – the UK’s TALLEST water ride Drenched.

Speaking further about today’s difficult decision Aspro Parks state the following;

“in the entire history of Aspro we have never closed any park or attraction. We, and our dedicated team of staff has strived to overcome numerous challenges to continue to bring joy to families and visitors across the region and country. Unfortunately, we could no longer see a sustainable way forward and will seek to improve our other parks using the assets and where possible team elsewhere”

Oakwood Theme Park’s closure comes following an air of uncertainty surrounding the park and the removal of several attractions from the park with announcement of the reasons for doing so being stated.

Aspro Parks are said to have invested over of £25 million into the park since rescuing Oakwood Theme Park from another potential closure back in 2008. This has included carrying out major refurbishment work on Megafobia – the park’s iconic wooden roller coaster which was received incredibly well by fans of the park and enthusiasts alike.

Today though, the company have announced that after exploring EVERY other possible avenue to keep the Pembrookshire based family park open they are left with no other alternative than to close it for the last time.

Although it’s not explicitly stated the closure WILL be permanent, the impression created by today’s release following by the acknowledgement to all who have worked and visited the park “over the years” certainly makes the news of the park’s closure final.

“We are aware that Oakwood has been a much-loved destination for generations and a rite of passage for many young visitors. It is for this reason we feel such a sense of sadness.”

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedication and commitment of our team members past and present, suppliers and contractors who have loyally supported us and of course all those that have visited Oakwood Theme Park over the years. We are sincerely grateful.”

“Thank you for making Oakwood Theme Park a special place.”

Our thoughts go out to all affected by today’s announcement and we hope that the future of Oakwood Theme Park might still find security yet in the coming months, but for now, the park WILL NOT reopen in 2025.
